Week 9 of 2012 Season

Expected Harvest:
Each week I will send out a list of what we expect to harvest and distribute to our CSA members that week.  But, please remember that this list is just an estimate based on a quick walk-through of our fields and not a guarantee of what will be at the pick-ups.  What we are actually able to harvest may change according to how things look when we are out in the fields that day.

Quetzali (red) and Early Moonbeam (yellow) Watermelons

New this week…
carrots – rainbow: a mix of white, yellow, orange, and purple carrots
onions – rossa lunga di tropea (also called red torpedo) an oblong, sweet, red onion
peppers – purple islander peppers and maybe some green bell
tomatoes – red and heirloom varieties are now ripening and ready to pick
watermelon – quetzali (red flesh) or early moonbeam (yellow flesh)
We’ll also have cilantro and dill again this week.

cucumbers – slicing
cucumbers – pickling (we are offering a pickling amount this week: 5 pounds)

fresh softneck garlic – variety: broadleaf czech

scallions
summer squash, patty pan squash & zucchini (green or golden)
swiss chard
tomatillos
tomatoes – cherry (a mix of red, orange, yellow, purple, and maybe even some green)
turnips – hakurei (the sweet, white variety)

Bonus Herbs & Other things:
basil (we are going to bring a good amount, so feel free to take enough to make yourself a batch of pesto)
jalapeños

Islander Peppers

Future harvests…
Our first plantings of green beans and sweet corn have come and gone but our second rounds will be ready to pick soon.  We’ll most likely have sweet corn again next week.  The beans may be ready but they may also take a bit longer.  We don’t have lettuce available this week but should have it available again soon, perhaps as early as next week.
